About Jacy

Founder of The Financial Gals

I am a life-long entrepreneur and can prove this street cred with literal street cred of my very first business.  I made about $100 that day, learning my first lesson - People will grossly overpay for a cup of grocery store box lemonade when the presentation is "local" and "artisnal" (even back then).   I started magic shows, taught piano lessons, hawked the local newspaper, sold ice cream - anywhere I saw the opportunity to make some money, I jumped at the chance.

Circa 1989 with a very cool hatThere is nothing more exciting to me than the abundant opportunity I see everywhere - I never really grew out of that part and the strategies we use to best seize them.

I studied Economics in college, later earning an MBA with an Accounting specialization, always really really fascinated with how we can use numbers to help us make the best decisions.  As I began working in the industry as both a Profit and Non-Profit CFO and eventually moonlighting as an Accounting Professor, I realized the strength of good data for an empowered and informed leader.

Later, serving clients with my own bookkeeping firm for small businesses, I noticed many of the same struggles and patterns emerge.

Most business owners want to do the right thing.  Generally, I would not be speaking with them if they didn't.  But they are experts in whatever it is that the business does, and although they know it is SUPER important to focus on the financial aspect of their business.... Well, frankly, it scares them.  Most of us don't get good PERSONAL financial training in school, let alone the knowledge on business financials.

So what next?

In my experience, they either:
A:  Don't do anything - Out of sight, out of mind

B. Monthly Banking Lottery - Surprise! Did I make or lose money this month?

C. Hire a $300+ an hour CPA who gives great tax advice but doesn't really know how to run/manage operational finances

None of these are great solutions, in my view.  So I founded The Financial Gals to bridge the gap to provide real, actionable and non-intimidating financial educational specifically for women entrepreneurs.

Trust me.  After working with dozens of companies of all sizes, I can testify that even having a simple plan for your business finances is better than no plan at all.  With such a high rate for start-ups in the first place, I believe more women should have the best chance at success.
